About Toto
Toto was founded in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also famous studio players working with Boz Scaggs) and bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. The group's name was derived from a Latin word that translates to "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore every style of music.
The third album by Toto, Turn Back, was not a success in 1981. However they made amends with their fourth release, Isolation, which contained two hits, including the title song and Roseanna. The album and tour makes them a household name around the globe.
After a brief hiatus, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. The album is different from the ballads of previous albums and includes some heavy rock. This was their first platinum album in North America.
When they record the band's fifth album the band loses their manager and is put in financial difficulty. They decide to change their name and make a new album using an entirely new producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, replaces Fergie Frederiksen as lead vocalist. Joseph is more natural as a frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a much needed boost.
In 1999, the band released Mindfields and begins an extensive tour across the globe. After several weeks in Europe The band then travels to Japan for sold-out shows. After a short break, Toto resumes recording and continues to record their first live album, Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes a cover of Weezer's song Hash Pipe in response to the band's cover of their hit Africa during the recent tour. Toto's touring band is rounded out by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.

The album had a host of songs, including "Stranger in Town".
After Isolation, Toto took a break from the spotlight and went on hiatus. This gave the members of the band a chance to pursue solo projects. In 1996, the band returned for a tour and an album. It was the first time all original members were on stage together for over a decade.
